Dr. Robert E. Shanklin

In honor of Dr. Robert E. Shanklin, Bob '67 and Jan Shanklin made a commitment to the Connect Today, Create Tomorrow campaign to create The Robert E. Shanklin Fellowship for Faculty Innovation.

The Shanklin Family knows well that great things happen when great minds are given the resources to learn and create. Dr. Robert E. Shanklin served as department chair of Geology for 16 years and was instrumental in establishing the Geography major. Dr. Shanklin touched the lives of thousands of students over his 45 years at Ohio Wesleyan, many of whom still remember him fondly decades later.

In honor of Dr. Shanklin's service to the University and the family's deep ties to OWU, Bob '67 and Jan Shanklin have made a commitment to the Connect Today, Create Tomorrow campaign to create The Robert E. Shanklin Fellowship for Faculty Innovation. This three-year fellowship will rotate among faculty within the Natural Sciences division to allow the chosen faculty member to complete work on a significant professional project.

Education and lifetime learning have always been an emphasis in the family. Bob and Jan, their children, Jen and Rob, and Bob's sisters, Kerry '70, Nancy '72, and Vickie '78, understand that students benefit when faculty are engaged, inquisitive, and fulfilled as they prepare students to be the same.

Dr. Robert E. Shanklin was instrumental in establishing the Geography major at Ohio Wesleyan.

The Shanklins had originally planned to support faculty through an estate commitment but decided instead to accelerate the gift to see its impact during their lifetime. The family looks forward to the research and innovation that their gift will support for years to come. Who knows what scientific advancements are on the horizon? The Shanklins are excited to be a part of these efforts in honor of Dr. Shanklin's service and commitment to OWU.
